EndofChapter3

Falling

Note the marginalia here on p19. Eric connects S’s Chapter One question of a possible fall and Jen’s comment on Vaclav Straka’s real fall to a flashback of sorts that S has at the end of Chapter Three after a bomb goes off on the wharf in B__. In addition, in the margins, Eric Husch reports to Jen Heyward that Jean Bernard Desjardins died from a fall.

If that were the only connection between p19 and the end of Chapter Three, this post would not exist.

Edsel B. Grimshaw
On p18, we see this exchange between Jen and Eric…

Has anyone ever complained about how good S’s intuition is?

HELL, YES. THERE WAS A CRITIC NAMED EDSEL B. GRIMSHAW WHO FAMOUSLY RIPPED SOT TO SHREDS.

The scene that Eric mentions here on p18 also occurs at the end of Chapter Three, culminating on p108 with the anticipated fall into the water.

The Serin Institute
On p19, Eric and Jen discuss Serin.

Been thinking about the Serin Institute $. What do you think they want from you? or want to find?

MAYBE THEY THINK I HAVE A SHOT AT FIGURING OUT THE AUTHORSHIP Q. REGARDLESS, IT FEELS GOOD TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE OUT THERE THINKS I’M CAPABLE.

Then, on p109, Serin appears again…

I’M GOING TO PARIS FOR THE FUNERAL. SERIN OVERNIGHTED A CREDIT CARD LOADED WITH $ FOR PLANE FARE, HOTEL, ETC.

Eric, stop. You have no idea what’s really going on here. With Desjardins, with Serin, with any of it.

Moody

Moody is mentioned several times on p18-19 as recognizing Eric’s capability. On p108, Moody comes up again.
